Mad Men and Martinis- April

Mad Men Cars (and bicycles)

When planning the last Mad Men affair, we had visions of the Modern parking lot filled with mid-century cars and motorcycles. We hoped for an entire display of the mid-century lifestyle- from transportation to dress. Being the last Mad Men party, it should go out with bang (or a rumble).

Unfortunately, sheets of rain, sleet and snow draped our parking lot up until minutes before the event was set to begin, detouring most motor-enthusiasts. The only car collector unwilling to surrender to the elements, drove over 50 miles to participate in Mad Men Cars. As an avid collector of the American automobile, this unnamed enthusiast only collects 1963 autos. Three out of twenty three cars were driven down for this month’s Mad Men photo shoot.

In keeping of this month’s theme “modern transpiration”, hotel owned bicycles were used as props upon the departure of our three generous cars.

Mad Men and Martinis- March

I have baggage, but not luggage…

Another month of mid-century fun at The Modern Hotel and Bar.  This month guests were captured as they entered the hotel to check in for another salacious affair.  In addition to the usual martini glasses and Lucky Strikes, guests were encouraged to wield vintage luggage to highlight their mid-century dress in the newest installment of the photo series by Rachel Reichert and Seth Ogilvie.

Now dear, faithful readers, it falls to you.  Please vote for your favorite Mad Men inspired outfit below.

Mad Men and Martinis- February

February’s Mad Men and Martinis kicked off with a Mahi Thai and an order of Oyster Rockfeller. Guests we once again encouraged to dress up and participate in the Mad Men costume contest, photographed by Rachel Reichert and Seth Ogilvie. This month participants were photographed in the Modern Hotel’s lobby. Contestants were encouraged to interact with the varying tabletop accessories (i.e. booze, Lucky Strikes and mid century fare), emphasizing the recurring indulgence of such substances throughout the series.

The Mad Men Affair - Vote for Best Dressed Male

With a mid-century food and cocktail menu featuring drinks like the Mint Julep and the Rye Manhattan, Mad Men and Martinis January 2010- was a riot. Party goers were asked to dress up and compete for best dressed.  In keeping with the recurring theme of Luck Strikes, Booze and scandalous affairs- Rachel Reichert  shot a collection of images from the Modern Mad Men party… Pink stripped sheets, whisky, cookbooks, ashtrays, and even a photograph of Rachel’s grandparents adorned room 118 of the Modern Hotel. Rachel asked people to sit on the edge of the bed and pretend as if they were just about to leave the room. If people attended room 118 alone, she became their counterpart.

Please cast your vote for best dressed/ best persona- Male (in the comment box).  In the comment section, please choose from one of the following Mad Men.

Let’s Speak Easy and Celebrate Dec. 5 1933

Dec. 5 1933 marks the date Prohibition officially ended in the United States.

In the history of the United States, Prohibition, also known as The Noble Experiment, is the period from 1919 to 1933, during which the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol consumption were banned nationally as mandated in the Eighteenth Amendment to the US Constitution

Join us to celebrate the end of prohibition, 14 long years of illegal drinking. Let’s make up for it tonight! Enjoy prohibition cocktails (along with history lesson) and other drink specials. The best Prohibition attire wins a free beer.
